Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The CMS Academy Business of Law week involved a number of really exciting elements and insights into the firm. We had networking sessions with a range of CMS representatives from Paralegals, Trainees and Associates. Everyone was equally approachable and lovely to speak to, and all offered their own brilliant insight. We were put into groups to carry out a full day simulation exercise and a presentation regarding sustainability, which were both challenging but really enjoyable!
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Business insight was brilliant. We had presentations and networking sessions with a range of CMS representatives from all levels of seniority to answer all of our questions. A real emphasis was put on the culture at CMS, which I was really impressed by.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I developed and gained a number of really important skills. I was nervous about presenting due to a fear of public speaking, however we had a session on "Presenting with Presence" which was incredibly helpful and I think our presentation went really well! I felt confident speaking and really enjoyed watching and providing feedback on other presentations. I also improved my communication and teamwork skills in both the simulation and peer mentoring exercises.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Company culture seems really positive. Almost every person I spoke to said it was one of their favourite things about CMS and the main reason they have worked for the firm for so long. The atmosphere has been really exciting and enjoyable this week, and the Early Talent team and all the Academy participants have been fantastic to work with.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed the presentation by Penelope Warne which was so informative, honest and insightful. The same goes for all the networking sessions - I feel really excited to be in the office to learn more!

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CMS
Be yourself! From what I have seen, CMS embraces the personality of its participants. Also, try and immerse yourself in all that CMS has to offer (which is a lot). Do your research and speak to as many people as you can.
