Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I currently work in Accounts Payable within the Master Data Management team. We work alongside Vendor Relations with in the ultimate goal of ensuring vendors are paid on time. We specifically change bank details, create vendor accounts, and change vendor names on our online system. We work using the platforms Oracle, Reim, POEM and Excel.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme a lot. I like how each day is very different and how you are always expanding on your knowledge. I learn something new everyday. I find the support with my colleagues also helps especially with my college work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt how to use various platforms I wasn't familiar with before invluding Oracle and Reim. While also securing and further supporting my knowledge with platforms I was familiar with like Excel. My learning with BPP allowed me also to further my knowledge on functions and various features in excel.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is very well structured. This is due to how you get to experience different teams and functions throughout the apprenticeship. I am currently within AP, however I will also get experiance with Sales Audit too. It allows you to explore new areas and find which one you enjoy most.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive lots of support from my employer. This is due to the various people who are available to help. Not only do you have your team, you also have the Early Careers team while also your peers completing the same apprenticeship. Someone is always willing to help!

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

3/5

I recieve lots of support from my training provider due to its ability to reach out to tutors, hub and in person classes. The hub is what I find most helpful as you can re watch lessons, guides, and practise exams and questions. I think it would be helpful if they gave reminders about our skills and behaviours we need to complete.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I find it has given me a more secure knowledge on finance as a whole but in particular accounting. I find it has grown my confidence with being able to discuss and take part in meetings.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I have been part of the Comic Relief Red nose day team organising events across finance including bake sales, pot luck lunch and a raffle. I am also organising an operational finance picnic along with the other apprentices for June.

Why?

The company culture is very good with everyone being kind and supportive. I was very welcomed by the company and straight away knew it was the right place for me. I would highly recommend to anyone to work for TJX.
