Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am in the Business Planning Team and my role involves supporting and consolidating the budget process and speaking to various teams within the Finance function to collate a budget for the European division of the company. I am responsible for putting together the submission files that we send off to the corporate office in the US. I also am responsible for the upload process into OneStream for the monthly forecasting.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The programme is very engaging and is allowing me to broaden my skillset and experience a wide range of responsibilities within my team. I also enjoy the community that the apprenticeship has created and the people I have connected with and have built relationships with. Also the fact that I can be supported through my CIMA exams is really great.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed my Excel skills and learnt how to use the TM1 application to extract data. I also have developed my communication skills through interacting with a wide range of people across the business and I am working on how to challenge a colleague effectively in a way that is respectful and constructive.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well structured. We had a month long induction at the beginning which was a great introduction to the company and the programme and really helped to set a good foundation before joining my team. Throughout the programme, we get regular check-ins and Early Careers meet ups and I meet with my internal contact once a quarter which is a good way to ask questions and update the team on my progress and concerns.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer is very supportive.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
BPP is good at providing the learning materials such as the books and videos, however, their communication is not up to scratch. I had an issue at the start of the programme where my exemptions as provided by BPP did not match CIMA's opinion and when trying to get the issue resolved, my emails were not being responded to in a timely manner and the whole process was very inefficient and longed out as I was constantly being referred to other contacts, but no one was helping me until my internal contact from TJX stepped in and got involved. Even when we gave sessions and meetings, we have to chase them for meeting invites and communication on updates, which is very frustrating. However, in terms of the teaching, they ar very good.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification helps me by improving my understanding of technical knowledge and is teaching me what certain terminology means that I hear day-to-day.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are lots of extra-curricular activities available to get involved in. From social activities to big company-wide events such as getting involved in Red Nose Day fundraising and organising events to raise money as well as supporting the company in upholding their cultural values. There are also opportunities to catch up and meet people from all over the business.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend TJX Europe to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The company culture is a big factor and the support we get is very consistent. I also feel that they want us to achieve our best and are willing to help us to do what is needed to get there. The company is big on relationships and their employees and that makes it a positive place to work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TJX Europe?
I would definitely advise to really understand the model of the business as that is a huge part of what the company does and it is constantly spoken about day-to-day. I would also say that the company cares about more than just for career but also your extra-curricular activities, hobbies and interests so be sure to express this
