Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I rotate across various Project Delivery Capabilities within the business, working in a variety of roles across different projects and frameworks, from Project Controls to People and Project Management.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship programme to date. Whilst it is at times challenging attempting to balance workplace tasks with university study, I have enjoyed this challenge and have benefited from applying university learning within my day-to-day role. I have also enjoyed having the opportunity to develop my skills and grow by network by undertaking a variety of roles on complex projects and fully immersing myself in the Early Careers community.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Working in a fast-paced and diverse environment has enabled me to significantly develop my skillset, whilst also acquiring new ones. I have significantly developed my ability to deliver a presentation effectively and produce financial reports, whilst I have also developed my understanding of the contractual obligations on projects and how to manage people effectively.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My programme is well structured, but partially due to the nature of the business sector / industry, undertaking set rotations across different departments within the business or across different capabilities within a business unit, is not always possible.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer is very supportive and is understanding of my time commitments in relation to university studies and apprenticeship tasks. Jacobs allow apprentices to use their university day outside of term time. For me, this has been very beneficial in ensuring I have been able to make progress with my OTJ logging requirements and university assignments.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
When completing university assignments, my university lecturers are often very helpful, answering any questions I may have and clarifying any areas of uncertainty, whilst most lecturers will clearly explain the coursework expectations at the start of the module. My learning provider have also organised a series of sessions with the Chartered Management Institute, which are proving to be beneficial in the lead up to our End Point Assessment and obtaining Chartered Manager status.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
There are some modules which I have covered during my degree where I have been able to apply learning directly to my workplace role. For example, during a "Data for Decision-Making" module, I developed my understanding of excel formulas and functions, and I was then able to apply some of these to drive efficiencies and improve the quality of financial reports within my role as an Assistant Project Controller.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Jacobs is a fantastic environment for Early Careers Professionals. We have a thriving Early Careers Network and within the London office, we have a series of sports teams / clubs, both competitive and social, whilst the various Employee Networks organise a series of events, ranging from socials to speed networking to team building activities, both inside and outside of the office.
