Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I have been working in the lab to set up a mouse model for asthma. My days generally vary between working in the lab, writing up my experiments into my electronic lab notebook or planning new experiments.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given the appropriate amount of responsibility. I felt as though the project was my own but I also felt supported when I needed help.

All of the assays that I have learnt in the lab have been new. I have also developed my data analysis , presentation and improved my time keeping skills.

My supervisor was very supportive and tried to come up with new ways to explain things if I found a concept challenging.

The company culture has generally been good, although I have not felt wholly integrated into my team however that could be perhaps as I am only at the company for a year.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
In general I have really enjoyed my placement. Despite it being challenging at times I feel I have made huge progress in my scientific capabilities and made some really good links in industry.

Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca
The first 3 months may be really challenging, as it was for me, however you will soon get into the swing of things. Also your project really will be your own, I assumed I would just help out with other peoples project but it turned out I could direct my own time more than I anticipated.
