I currently cook, prep and serve food within my company's warehouse. I help create new items and cook together with my senior chefs to build a wonderful and consistent experience for our pPartners.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Although the portfolio was the hardest part to get through I enjoyed the accomplished feeling it gave me once submitted. The days out with HIT training chefs was one of my favorite parts of the course getting to handle a ton of ingredients I can't normally handle.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt an amazing amount of new skills on this course. I went from barely knowing how to cook or prepare food to helping with dish development and cooking by myself in our kitchen.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme went by quickly with barely any issues. HIT Training and the Partnership kept up with me and made sure to check my progress month by month.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer JLP were very supportive and kept me up to date as much as possible. It does help to have a manager who is enthusiastic and very involved with my course as this boosts my confidence and pushes me to do better in my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My HIT Trainer was super friendly and really pushed me to continue my portfolio work. Even when behind they gave me encouragement and kept things positive which really helped me to push that last deadline with them.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Since I work in the kitchen my qualification helps me in all aspects, from food handling and safety to being able to work together and understand other people and their roles in my workplace. It has certainly opened by eyes and helped with problems like wastage.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

JLP provide so many services and opportunities for Partners that it is hard to explain or list off just a few of them. Currently the Partnership is holding workshops to help develop general skills for your job or to help you be peaceful and friendly towards other Partners.

Why?
I would suggest my workplace to another because of the discount benefits at Waitrose & JL. I also think the environment is a nice change of pace and the friendliness of the people around me certainly helps that.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to John Lewis Partnership?
Make sure to be friendly, open and honest. Showcase your eloquence and willingness to learn about the Partnership and also your job role. Being able to chat with others and be confident is a great asset.
