Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On a day to day basis, I work on delivering Flood Mitigation schemes working alongside Hertfordshire County Council. I am responsible for 5 projects at various stages, for their project management, stakeholder engagement, design and construction using a wide variety of software and tools, while mentoring members of the team.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy the degree apprenticeship with the vast opportunities and learning available to me. Each day is different and the availability to work on different projects and problems gives a breadth and depth to my understanding of civil engineering. I feel I have grown exponentially throughout my apprenticeship.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My work side of my apprenticeship is well structured and there has been support available. It has been easy to be involved and to lead the apprenticeship programme striving to improve and develop it for others. The university provision has been more difficult with the course being disorganised at times.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer and line management have always addressed concerns and ensured I feel supported and the recourses are available to my learning. There is a good apprentice community and this is developing and improving.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
A development individual is assigned to help ensure 20% OTJ is completed and up to date to ensure we are on track to complete the apprenticeship. There is vast duplication between what is required for the university and the institutes requirements for qualification, even when they are completed in tandem.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My role is heavily highway related and the civil engineering degree is very structurally focused. Therefore, not alot of the course has been relatable to my day to day role in engineering. There has been a couple of modules which have been applicable and helped to round my engineering understanding.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is Graduate and Apprentice events which take place at work to boost socialising and support for early career professionals alongside workshops and monthly meetings to discuss topics and to highlight any areas of improvement.
