Booking rooms, managing parking permits, IT support, site safety checks. Projects include updating the intranet with staff changes and links, and maintaining site posters with current milestones and staff information
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme—it’s varied, hands-on, and has helped me build both technical and interpersonal skills. I like being involved in different projects and supporting staff, which keeps each day interesting and rewarding.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I’ve developed my IT troubleshooting and communication skills through daily support tasks. I’ve also improved project coordination by managing intranet updates and site materials, and gained more confidence working independently across different teams.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well-structured, with a clear routine and a good balance of daily tasks and project work. Support and guidance are always available, which helps me stay on track and develop effectively.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a high level of support from my employer, including regular check-ins, guidance on tasks, and help when needed. There’s always someone available to answer questions or provide feedback.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider is supportive and always available to answer questions, but communication and guidance could be clearer and more efficient at times. Overall, they are helpful, but there’s room for improvement in structure and clarity.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I don’t feel there’s a strong connection between the qualification content and my day-to-day role. While it’s useful in a general sense, most of my learning and development comes from hands-on experience in the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are apprentice events focused on career development, which are a great chance to catch up with fellow apprentices. We also have networking events where we can speak with senior staff to learn about different career paths and get valuable advice.

I’d suggest a friend to Skanska because it’s a supportive place to work, with good opportunities to learn and grow. The apprentice programme gives real hands-on experience, and there are great chances to network, develop skills, and explore different career paths.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Skanska?
Be yourself and show enthusiasm for learning. Do some research on Skanska’s values and projects so you can speak confidently in interviews. Also, be open to trying new things—the more you get involved, the more you’ll get out of the experience.
