Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Provide apprenticeship advice and guidance to employees; action Apprenticeship enrolments for levels 5-7; co-ordinate Levy transfer requests; co-ordinate the Graduate Scheme; support the Work Experience scheme; support the Summer Work Placements scheme; support the Career Ambassador Network; support Apprenticeship Recruitment Assessment Centres.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I love the programme I am on! The assignments showcase my knowledge and experience within each area of HR. The programme is something I have wanted to do for a number of years.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have become more resilient and flexible when there are ever changing priorities and tasks. I have further cemented my knowledge and experience in this field.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is really well organised and structured. The system compliments the structure and I am able to keep myself on track. The order of the modules and how they are broken down is clear and understandable.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support - my line manager attends regular reviews and when I had a break in learning they were really supportive. I am also able to arrange time to work in another part of HR to make my experience more up-to-date and relevant for my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The training provider has been especially understanding and supportive when I had to have a break-in-learning. Since returning, they have worked with me to get back on track and provide advice and assistance when I need it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I am able to use my work experiences as evidence for my apprenticeship in real time as they happen, therefore I am learning practically on the job which compliments my role perfectly.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have an Apprentice Café that has been arranged by some other apprentices, we also have a regular chat set up amongst each other so that we can share knowledge and opportunities. I am an Apprentice Ambassador as part of the Apprentice Ambassador Network.

Why?
I have worked in HR for Cornwall Council (and one of it's predecessor Council's before becoming a Unitary Authority) for 21 years. The Council has always believed in developing staff and providing those opportunities.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cornwall Council?
Get involved in everything you can - forums, networks, etc., read through communications, become familiar with the corporate information - the more exposure and visibility you have of the organisation and ALL of the Services it provides will stand you in good stead and could open up other career opportunities.
