Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Caulking is a combination role using (at my location) oxy/propane burning, air arc gouging and various grinding/filing/finishing power tools on metal plate of varying thickness
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am going into work with a smile on my face nearly every day, I enjoy learning new things, improving my own ability and seeing the result of my work

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Before starting the apprenticeship I had never so much as looked at any of the involved tools so I have been learning from scratch, new things every day and constant refinement of tool usage

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Pretty well structured, initial learning is very linear and direct with lots of hands on practice in a classroom and workshop, after this point you're put into placement out in the business with further evaluations to be carried out as each individual is ready for them but still structured by year
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
As much as I need and ask for, both work related and personally
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
As much as I need and ask for
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Caulking is a niche trade, so dedicated training is very helpful
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Teams in the business organise regular nights out, lots of enthusiasm around sporting events/teams and the programme included a week away "outward bound" course hiking, boating, abseiling, etc

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Great employer, good wages (especially once fully qualified) and long term career options both in the trade entered with or through internal retraining to increase your own flexibility
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be yourself and research the role you're looking for. If you need more information you can always contact the early careers team and they'll take care of you
