Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

as an apprentice joiner i am currently on a placement within the company where i work on the boats daily completing tasks within a team which are given to us in a morning meeting. Once a week i go down to the training school where i'm working through a work book improving my joinery skills
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I've enjoyed past placements and teams which i've worked in however overall i think my apprenticeship program has been poor and very unorganised throughout which has caused it to be a lot less enjoyable.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

i've learnt basic joinery skills and terminology along with different skills to contribute on my placement. i've also been on multiple health and safety courses to improve my knowledge on that
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

my program has very little organisation and hasn't since we started, theres lots of people involved meaning we are always being told different things. My apprenticeship has had structure however it is very loose and often forgotten about
How much support do you receive from your employer?

the support is there if we need it and we are advised on who to speak to if we have any particular issues. As apprentices we are also given lots of points of contact as options for people to see if we need assistance
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

i was previously in collage working towards my level two qualification where we attended once a week and completed a mix of both practical and theory work however after our first year i was taken out meaning i had completed half a course still with no qualification. i now go to the training school once a week however i don't feel there is the same amount of support or guidance in comparison to collage
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

in most cases our qualification wont be needed in our job role after we've completed our time as for our most likely job role we do a separate week long course
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I haven't heard or seen about many extra curricular activities as part of the workplace. there are many awards nights and apprentices have to take part in an outward bound week at the beginning of the apprenticeship which i really enjoyed and thought was a good team building and networking event

its all on preference but from my personal apprentice experience i probably wouldn't recommend to a friend
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
i would say to speak to people who work within the business with first hand experience with the role your looking to apply for
