Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I assist with inspecting damaged vehicles to determine the extent of the damage and what repairs are needed. I help prepare accurate repair estimates using specialist software and ensure they meet insurance and manufacturer standards.
I work closely with experienced assessors, technicians, and insurance companies to support the repair process. I'm also developing my knowledge of vehicle construction, repair methods, and assessment techniques through hands-on experience and training.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I've thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship. It gives me the chance to learn hands-on in a real working environment while gaining knowledge from experienced professionals. Every day is different, which keeps things interesting, and I like seeing the progress I’ve made with my skills over time. It’s also rewarding to know I’m working towards a career in a field I’m genuinely interested in.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I’ve become much more confident using estimating software to create repair assessments, and I’ve developed a better understanding of vehicle construction and repair methods. I’ve also improved my communication skills by working closely with technicians, insurance companies, and customers.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is well structured and provides a good balance between hands-on experience in the body shop and learning through training sessions. I know what’s expected of me, and there’s a clear plan for the skills I need to develop. I get regular feedback and support from both my workplace and training provider, which helps me stay on track and keep improving.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. We have a dedicated training team in place, which makes a big difference—they’re always available to help with any questions and give guidance when I’m learning something new. My manager and colleagues are also really supportive, and they take the time to explain things properly and make sure I’m developing the right skills. It’s a great environment to learn in, and I always feel like help is there when I need it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive good support from my training provider. My assessor is easy to reach if I have any questions or need help with my coursework, and they give regular feedback to help me stay on track. The training sessions are clear and well-organised, and I always know what I need to focus on next. They also check in regularly to make sure I’m progressing and understand everything, which really helps me feel confident as I work towards my qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that the qualification really supports me in performing better in my role. The training covers the technical knowledge and skills I need as a vehicle damage assessor, and it helps me understand why certain repair methods are used. What I learn through my training provider often links directly to what I’m doing in the workshop, so I can apply it straight away. It also helps me build confidence in areas like using estimating systems and understanding vehicle construction, which are key parts of the job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are definitely extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work. We’ve had breakfast mornings to help raise money for Ben’s charity. We’ve also taken part in competitions, like working with Mac Tools to design and build a custom toolbox, which was a fun and creative challenge. It’s nice to have opportunities like these outside of day-to-day work—it helps build team spirit and keeps things enjoyable.

Yes

I’d definitely recommend Gemini to a friend because it’s a great place to learn and grow. The team is really supportive, and there’s a strong focus on training and helping apprentices succeed. You get hands-on experience, work with modern tools and equipment, and there are always opportunities to develop your skills. It’s also a really positive environment to work in, with team activities and a good sense of community. If someone’s serious about getting into the industry, I think Gemini is the perfect place to start.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Gemini Accident Repair Centres?
My advice would be to show that you’re enthusiastic and willing to learn. You don’t need to know everything from the start—what’s important is having a good attitude, asking questions, and being open to feedback. Try to learn as much as you can from the people around you, because there’s a lot of experience in the team. Also, take pride in your work, even the small tasks, because it all helps you build your skills. If you’re motivated and keen to get stuck in, Gemini is a great place to start your career.
