Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Delivery of client side construction management role including contract management, procurement, preparation of reports and recommendations to client, management of whole life project cost, construction delivery and handover. All stages of project from inception to handover.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Its a very in depth and interesting programme. There is a lot to learn and as an employee I still need to deliver my job role alongside my studies but it also helps with my knowledge and skills to be better in my role, as well as developing additional skills in critical thinking and academic writing.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I am on a chartered surveyor pathway so I am learning all of the skills required to demonstrate my knowledge and experience of the surveying to cover areas such as project delivery, sustainability in construction, procurement, contract management, financial management and project management.

Very well organised and structured with a good level of both delivered and self directed research across all aspects of the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have a very good mentor and also I receive further support from all colleagues and managers who assist with sharing knowledge and skills as required.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Very good support across the programme with regular apprentice outcome officer appointments as well as assistance as required from both academic and programme specific support if needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I have increased my knowledge of construction management significantly since starting on this period of study and continue to gain knowledge and skills as the programme continues.

I have been in the Council for a long time but have done no acadmmaic study since leaving college in 1998 and this has given me the opportunity to get a degree
