Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
In my apprenticeship we have year long placements which gives me an insight into different areas of the business. My current placement involves managing changes to the project whereby one of my tasks involves creating and sending performance reports on the team to people up to director level.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I love how I am able to learn and put my skills into practice, which furthers my knowledge and allows me to relate what I'm learning about to real life scenarios.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I am constantly learning new skills through uni which I can then put into practice in the workplace.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My course is a very new professional course, which has led to some issues in terms of how the programme is organised. The KSBs laid out externally for the course have led to confusion as many of my colleagues are unsure how to hit some.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a good amount of support from my employer and feel I can speak to someone if I have an issue. In the past when I took an issue to my functional lead it got solved pretty much straightaway.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We are given 3 hours a week that we can use for uni work apart from the usual uni day, however, many managers are flexible in the fact there is no issue catching up if quiet. I have also had an inclusive learning plan made for me which allows me to receive additional help academically.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Completing a qualification at the same allows me to relate my work to the academic side of my profession and gives me more confidence in tasks as often I have already learnt about it.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There are activities to get involved in if I chose to do so, however, I haven't explored this as I am not local to my site.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend an apprenticeship over the university route as the combination of practical and academic learning helps to further your understanding. BAE also invests in employees and there are so many opportunities to progress in the business that I have been made aware of.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Focus on BAE behaviours
