Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Joining project calls to update status and gain exposure. Complete required tasks within project such as resources, budgets, stakeholder engagement etc. See project through from request to submission and deal with any change requests in between. Shadow more experience colleagues to gain better understanding until responsible enough to own individual project.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Apprenticeship programme is very supportive with 121 meetings with designated skills coach and monthly PM Workshops. Provide clear understanding and support with coursework and what is expected for end of year APM exam. In office, workload can be uncertain due to circumstances such as lack of projects, client response times, time period of the year etc, however these are out of the company's control and there is still opportunities to take on other responsibilities (e.g., additional roles, learning, certificates.)

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Built up confidence, communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Developed Excel and PowerPoint skills for customer meetings. Learning new skills through additional learning and qualifications available on the side.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well structured in terms of programme provider. They provide a clear timeline of monthly workshop agendas, case studies, 121 support and ample time to prepare for end of year exam/portfolio submission.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Tons. A good manager can make or break your experience. Very lucky to have a supportive manager that is also interested in my own development & learning and always willing to help with my coursework, alongside providing support on tasks and granting me independence to build initiative. The company culture as a whole is very friendly and supportive.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
A lot. Babington are great at providing support through monthly 121's with designated skills coach to provide feedback on assignments and development. Also provide additional learning support for any special requirements.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Project management as a whole teaches key skills such as leadership, organization and people management which can help in any role. Good qualification to have for any future career prospects.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Lots of opportunities to meet and engage with other apprentices/grads/early starters with after work socials (not only revolving around drinking), weekly cafe breaks, sports clubs and volunteering opportunities. Nice to connect with people in the same boat as you.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Nice, relaxed company culture. Not overly formal which can be daunting as first corporate job. They manage to keep it laid back but professional. Only time I've felt anxious was before my interview ha.
Good work/life balance.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
Before my interview, i saw someone online say to show your personality, so i did, and they loved it. I know that's what put me over the other candidates and got me the job. They don't only care about your qualifications/grades, they want to see what it'd be like to work with you and have you as part of their team. Relax and think of it as a conversation instead of an audition.
Another piece of feedback i received was that I seemed sure about the role i was applying to (Project Management) and not just gassed about working for the company. Know why you want to apply for the role and what skills you want to develop from it.
Have some examples you can talk about but don't over do it, they can tell when your remembering a script lol. If you approach the interview with the mindset of it being a career conversation, it'll help ease your nerves and make you seem more friendly and confident.
