Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role includes the manufacturing and fitting of pipework for the submarines, each day is different however we always start with a toolbox talk some days I can be prepping pipes or setting up pipes to get welded or drawing down on benches the layout drawings to figure out angles and check the pipe to the drawing etc usually them jobs are in the pipe shop where I am now but on the boats it included a lot more fitting and occasionally cutting out, setting up welds and prepping pipes sometimes in tricky spaces
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt so many new skills including things like using a bandsaw, drill, how to set pipes up on board to weld and also on the workbench in the pipe shop using v blocks and how to work out how to position it if it’s tricky, I’ve learnt how to V and J prep pipes with a file

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The upk part of it is good as it gets us thinking and understanding about certain aspects of it all however some of the things we learnt in college for example welding isn’t relevant to our job role as we can’t do our own welding on site.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
I did the rotary challenge which I enjoyed as it was something different and not what we’re used to and I also did an open evening which was nice getting to talk to people about what I do
