Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role includes processing payrolls for many companies, making updates, sending reports to clients and accounts, and submitting pension feeds. I ensure compliance with current legislation and stay informed about regulatory changes. I also handle client interactions and address their queries. As an apprentice, I balance my studies with my work, which enhances my understanding and skills

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I truly enjoy being a payroll apprentice because the fast-paced environment ensures that no two days are the same. Studying legislation, calculations, and case laws is both interesting and fun, and I find the academic aspect of my role very engaging. I have had many opportunities to participate in various projects and events, which has been rewarding. These experiences have allowed me to develop a diverse skill set and gain valuable insights into different areas of payroll.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Being an apprentice provides me with valuable hands-on experience and opportunities for professional growth while enhancing my learning. My confidence has significantly improved both personally and professionally. Balancing my workload and studies has helped me develop essential organisational skills. In the payroll department, I have learned to maintain a keen eye for detail, ensuring accuracy in all tasks. I work with an amazing team, gaining invaluable skills and knowledge from each member.

The support I receive is incredibly helpful. During exam periods, my team assists by reducing my workload, allowing me to focus on my studies. I am involved in various tasks and projects within my role, which enhances my understanding of different topics. This hands-on experience, combined with the support from the team, ensures I can balance my work and studies effectively.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My apprenticeship program is well organised. Having completed the Level 3 apprenticeship with the same provider, I have now progressed to the Level 5 apprenticeship. My tutor holds regular 1-1 meetings with me and my line manager to ensure my progress is closely monitored. My tutor is always open to questions and provides thorough thoughtful feedback on all my work. Additionally, the support I receive helps me stay on track and continuously improve.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification and course content have greatly enhanced my understanding of my role. The skills and knowledge I have gained enable me to clearly explain things to our clients when they have queries. Additionally, I now understand the reasoning behind certain processes and procedures.
