The role is a mixture of college lesson in blocks of 2-3 weeks and work placement in a similar way. There are many different role with regards to work placements. I'm currently working within system planning. I produce electrical load studies.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Within the SSE work placement the programme is structured well and there is a lot of guidance throughout the apprenticeship. With regards to college there is more emphasis on dependent learning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

SSE provide a tremendous amount of support and resources to help with all thing apprenticeship. Also the company culture ensures that asking questions is rewarded.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The college work is aimed at building independent learning. Therefore it is important to understand that although support is provided, its upon each apprentice to find their best learning practices and focus on how to achieve their set objectives
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The college modules cover a wide range of topics within the electrical engineering discipline. At the work placement role there is more learning to be done that directly impacts the apprentices day to day activities.

SSE provides a wide range to extra-curricular activities and have dedicated groups within SSE. extra-curricular activities are ongoing.

Ensure that you read the job description and be confident in your ability as you progress through the application stages. There is no need to overestimate your commitments. Make sure you have a good understanding of the company and SSE's overall goals.
