Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Currently i am on job training so my day to day varies on the tasks that are avaliable. This can be a range of maintenance tasks and inspections. Mostly mechanical based but trying to get avionic where possible.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
There are times when it is frustrating and feels like a bit of a battle but there are also rewarding times. Unfortunately due to cash conservation measures being in place we have lost the more rewarding experiences like the awards ceremonies and some of the STEM events. These measures slightly reduced the apprenticeship back down to the in work as the extracurricular can be costly. But there is the occasional opportunity that arises with insite groups

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
It is mostly developing skills but as there are a range of tasks there is always something to be learnt

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
First year has structure but feels very chaotic. It can be a lot having to move from site to site every 6 months due to external factors (however the program is now changing). The level of NVQ work can be more or less structured depending on the site due to the way certain sites run their maintenance schedule
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Some. As we are interim there has been a bit of a back and forth between movement of roles and responsibilities between managers from an apprentice program standpoint, but the on site support has been good for me personally from higher ups like the maintenance and accountable managers
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The level varies depending on reviews and how much you struggle. The support however can sometimes be lacking due to the online aspect and the way different assessors may interpret the criteria. The support needs to be structured more towards certain sites as their maintenance schedules can cause some issues.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
The evidence I use for my qualification comes from my knowledge and the tasks I complete at work. The only influence the qualification has on my role is the type of jobs I request to complete to be able to fulfill the qualification criteria
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There used to be before the cash conservation came into place. We used to have an annual apprentice awards and graduation. We used to have STEM events and families days. I have had the opportunity to do a few events before the measures came into place. Occasionally an activity may arise with an insite group outside of the program

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Boeing UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The apprenticeship is a good opportunity especially in a climate where there is an age gap within maintenance staff and also an industry that makes it difficult to get into with previous license or experience
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Boeing UK?
Just work hard. The company doesn't necessarily want the top of the class (while im sure that is preferred), they want someone who is an individual that can work well in a team and potentially bring something to the table. Apprentices come in all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds with varying levels of experience and education
