Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role as a Clinical Deputy Home Manager involves overseeing care delivery, carrying out audits such as medication management. It also entails auditing care plans to ensure that they are person-centred. I manage staff allocation, to ensure appropriate skill mix. I identify staff training needs and supervise them.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoyed the programme a great deal. Throughout the programme I was challenged to be vulnerable and identify my own strengths and weaknesses and develop action plans to improve. I got better understanding of the legislations and benchmarks of social care and how they affect my practice.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have improved my leadership skills to support staff while ensuring high standard of care. Change management played a key role in managing my own role change and staff response to it. I am more confident and courageous enough to take initiative and challenge practices.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It was well structured, with different modules and an assessment at the end of each. These assessments helped embed these new skills by enabling me to practice the concepts I learned. My coach was actively involved, facilitating professional discussions which helped me develop my own skills and ideas.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer was very supportive in ensuring that I had opportunities to complete off the job training. I was given many opportunities to shadow and participate in new training.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My coach was actively involved in my development. She gave me constructive feedback on my progress and work. I was made aware of resources at my disposal, through the provider’s resource centre. I was booked in for training when I requested one, for example, research remote learning via teams.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

While I was still working towards the qualification, I was seconded to a position of a Clinical Lead from a Nurse. Based on that alone, I feel that the knowledge and skills I acquired brought the best out of me.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Recently, there are regular meetings with other leaders from other sister homes in the area facilitated by the Area Director. I find these meetings very helpful as we exchange experiences, ideas and perspectives on how ensure high standards of care for our residents whilst ensuring community engagement.
