Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My current placement is Supply Chain Optimisation. I complete tasks like data downloads and shared service packs. Management uses the data I pull in meetings and to identify issues or areas to improve. My previous placement was machines, I was in charge of planning and ensuring aircrafts were complete in time.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I loved my old placement it was such a good one, I was given loads of training and so much independence alongside the support. BAE as a whole has such a great outlook on employees and their wellbeing. I however am not really enjoying my current placement as there isn't a lot to do.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have learnt lots of planning techniques in my previous placement and also improved my networking skills alongside my professionalism. My overall IT skills have improved, including Excel and Powerpoint. I have got way better with time management and being able to know which priorities come first.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
This can definitely improve. Induction and college days can definitely be a lot more condensed - I find they try to drag certain topics out to fill in time but we could be doing other beneficial tasks instead. The placements aren't overly great in the fact that you go in blind and sometimes don't have a clear job structure or guidance.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I received lots of support from my previous placement, they were sometimes really busy but everyone in the building was great. The skills coaches are brilliant for providing help or advice
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The skill coaches definitely take a step back when it comes to assignments. The guidance from them isn't the best unfortunately however there are infinite resources which is helpful so you can always find things to help you.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I get to experience all aspects of Supply Chain, going into four different placements which are all different roles which will be extremely beneficial when I exit my apprenticeship as I will have a wide understanding on how certain things work in the business.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
I get involved in the LAC (Local Apprentice Council) which is great as I get to plan different apprentice events. I think there can definitely be a lot more events planned and put forward for us.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
