Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Every day is different, one day I could be going down to Salisbury plain supporting on demolition day, next. I could be driving soldiers around so they can learn their specialty and by the end of the week, I could be duty driver (driving to and from the hospital).
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy it very much, every day is something different, I work with a great bunch of people and the work/life balance is really good.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have gained my HGV C1+E and C2, I’ve learned how to prepare the vehicle in guidance to the military standard, I have also gained my Hazard awareness card.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very. I have monthly reviews with my coordinator to see how I am progressing on the apprenticeship, I gained my HGV Class 1 within the first 5/6 months of being in the programme and now gaining valuable experience in the job training.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
If you have an issue, I am very confident in going to my supervisor to get things sorted and if I have a quiet day, I can go and ask my supervisor if there is any jobs that I can do or if I can shadow another driver.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Everything I terms of main training I.e. HGV Class 1 &2 were booked in and completed within the first 6 months and now it’s up to me to use my initiative to gain experience whilst on the job.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Having my HGV license helps massively as that is what a majority of my role entails, so it now means that I can perform 80% more of my duties at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
During my apprenticeship, I am looking into doing some voluntary events with the company.

Just be yourself, most of the staff in the drivers room are ex military and will take you in/under their wing if you are ex serving or not.
