Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

While on the apprenticeship I have had the opportunity to work in varied placements and on a day to day basis it has been about learning about each of these placements, what the teams do, taking on tasks and building on my skills and knowledge on topics related to the particular placement. Some of my placements so far have been in Change, Employee Relations and HR Business Partnering.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have enjoyed the programme very much so far and looking forward to seeing where my future takes me at TFL. The cohort of past and present HR apprentices have been super supportive which has made a world of difference.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt loads of new skills since starting with TFL. I feel TFL have worked hard to ensure that I had many opportunities to build skills that would be beneficial for my professional and personal growth and help me to grow my confidence in existing skills- for me that was building my confidence in public speaking and engaging with stakeholders.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My experience of the programme and my placements so far has been that it has been well organised and structured from the start. Our placements have covered a range of HR disciplines and we have set days to focus on studies.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have lots of support from both my Sponsor (who is my overall manager) and each of my different placement managers. They have helped me to identify areas for growth, identify tasks that could build my skills and I knew I could turn to them for guidance when completing my college coursework. I also have a buddy who is in the apprentice year above me. There have been many opportunities to access mentoring sessions too.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We attend the college every fortnight during term-time and I enjoy the in-person sessions with apprentices from other organisations to discuss their organisations and experiences. I can obtain support at these sessions or contact my tutor if I have any questions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel that the qualification had given me a good theoretical underpinning for the work that I am doing while on my placements.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are load of different extra-curricular activities that are available to all. I have enjoyed activities run by the Chief People Office Social Committee, the different Colleague Network Groups and the Graduate, Apprentice and Intern Committee.

Why?
I would highly recommend TFL given how positive my own experience has been while on the apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for London?
It helped me to do research about the organisation, read up about the sector and apprenticeship I was applying for and think about my own work experience.
