Overall Rating

3.6 /5

The Overall Rating is the average of all the ratings given in each category. We take those individual ratings and combine them into one final score!

2.5/5 - Overview of Role
4/5 - Skills Development
3.6/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role involves requirements designing, software implementation, modelling and testing. I also work and communicate with colleagues in different disciplines like systems engineering
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I really enjoy the practical elements of the programme however I am unsatisfied with the weighting of the Level-4 Diploma standard because I feel as though the volume of documentation takes away from my time that could be spent developing more skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed lots of skills in a variety of languages and environments, such as embedded systems, different operating systems etc. I have also learnt a lot of programming frameworks and have developed my ability to communicate

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is very structured and organised, the schedule of placements are predetermined and the uni day/diploma/work split is also managed by the early careers/apprenticeship support team
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive lots of support from my employer on a consistent basis, namely from my Skills coaches.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
The training provider has since changed since I have begun the course, so the following may no longer apply.
I do not receive much support from certain lecturers at UCLan and their content delivery is occasionally poor, which sometimes means I have to rely on external resources. There have been occasions where the training provider (UCLan) have announced that we are in a position of employment in the middle of lectures that host many students. There have been numerous protests at the University in which employees of the business have been approached so this feels as though the training provider is not concerned about our security.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification has absolutely developed my skills and helped me better perform in my role, although I would say the experienced gained within the practical elements of my role (working on-site) have improved my skills at an even greater level.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are lots of extra-curricular activities to get involved with during the scheme. Professional networking events are the most common. During the scheme I have been given the opportunity to attend lots of apprentice-only networking events, roadshows, and awards evenings.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The financial freedom offered by the scheme as well as the variety of work experienced gained while working at the company is not rivalled by any other provider in the country. As well as this, if successful, you will exit the scheme with more qualifications than a regular degree course offers.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Apply early and don't hesitate -- don't feel as though your application might be limited by a lack of technical experience in the field, because it is not expected, and you will pick up those skills on the job.
