Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a second seat trainee (apprenticeship route), tasks include document reviews, knowhow preparation, preparation of bundles & witness statements, first draft preparation of responses to clients, drafting emails of advice to clients and research.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have enjoyed the apprenticeship route, whilst it is hard work and a prolonged experience, overall the benefits outweigh the negatives.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes I have continued to develop and acquire new skills throughout my apprenticeships. I have seen a shift since starting to rotate around different teams as I am having to develop and acquire new skills with each seat change.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think in hindsight rotating departments sooner may have been more beneficial, however this is something that has been picked up and changed for future cohorts of apprentices. That being said there were benefits of being in the same team for so many years and I gained so much experience in that area.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer and each of the supervisors have been supportive regarding the apprenticeship and any deadlines / exams I have had. We have regular catch up with the early talent team to ensure that we are coping with the juggle of working and studying.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support is there but it is down to the individual to put themselves forward for that support - before an exam I was struggling with a particular topic and had a one to one call with the tutor who was happy to help and that session massively helped with my understanding.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think it depends on what area of law you are working in - since rotating teams I have noticed an increase in utilisation of the knowledge that I have gained through the qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes there are plenty of opportunities, again it is down to the individual how these are utilised. Recently the London office hosted a network fair to showcase all of the different social activities / sports teams that are available.

I've enjoyed working here throughout my apprenticeships and have always felt supported. Each department I have worked in, I have been given the opportunity to work on interesting projects and matters.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons LLP?
The apprenticeship route is hard work and takes a lot of dedication, but the rewards and benefits you gain are worth it. Think about what you as an individual offer and how that can be utilised.
