Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
We met many current employees within the firm and got several opportunities to network and discuss with them life at IM. We were set tasks daily to independently complete. We also had coffee catch-ups with departments that we did not have a task from. This was a hybrid based placement that was extremely well organised and very insightful.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
I understand that based on business need there may be an opportunity to begin a training contract in 2023 or otherwise 2024 dependant on our performance. I was offered a position as a paralegal in addition following my final interview from a partner. I am awaiting the results of the training contract application.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have developed several skills including an increase in networking confidence. I also learnt many things not only about the firm and their ethos but their practice areas. I gained a greater understanding of the PLS and BLS split and what this means for me as a potential future trainee.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone here was so insightful and genuinely interested in us as placement students and what a brought us to IM. The culture within this firm is friendly, open and professional. Overall everyone who worked here was positive about their working environment and it would be somewhere I would love to develop my career.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I throughly enjoyed this placement. I did not once feel like I was unwanted or a nuisance which can often be the case as a workplace student. Rather, valued and listened to. It was an amazing experience I would do again!

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Irwin Mitchell
To be yourself. It is extremely competitive and their is a certain personality and approach they are searching for. I would also advise to really research the company and their objectives and ethos which makes them so special.
