Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role as a mechanical designer involves designing plant systems. This includes: detailed design of water treatment facilities, design of machinery, and front-end engineering design. I have daily communication with the Mechanical team I am part of and am able to ask for help from more senior colleagues freely. I often work in multi-disciplinary teams, and engage with clients and suppliers to support projects.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I find the work that I am doing interesting, and enjoy the dynamic of having tasks that I work on individually, yet as part of a larger project team.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Over the course of my apprenticeship I have gained many new technical skills including: structural analysis, hydraulic analysis, pump sizing, and the use of software such as CAD, Excel, and mathCAD. I have also gained soft skills such as: communication skills, time-management, and teamwork skills.
