Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role as HR Assistant covers our Tech & Services and Transversal Functions segments (around 800 colleagues), supporting 3 HR Business Partners. I provide day-to-day advice and guidance to managers, lead on annual cyclical activity and produce data analysis. I am also involved in several People and Engagement forums.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have now completed my programme but I did enjoy it, I found that working alongside my apprenticeship helped to put my learnings into practice which helped when completing my assignments. I thought the workshops were engaging and informative.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my data analysis skills and strengthened my business knowledge, as I had previously completed Business A-level. New knowledge I learnt was around the Essentials of People Practice, understanding organisation structures and various business models / theories.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme felt well structured, blocks of each learning module were put in the calendar in advance and deadlines for proof-reading assignments / handing them in was clear.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I received so much support from my employer, in particular my manager and immediate team. They accommodated my learning time and respected when I blocked out time to complete my assignments, of which my manager proof read and provided feedback. Support from my employer was a huge help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I received a good amount of support from my training provider, providing feedback on draft assignments and being available for a call when something was unclear.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification has developed my knowledge and understanding of HR and my organisation, which is valuable when I'm working with stakeholders. It has allowed me to get involved in higher level projects and pieces of work, which further develop me.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have 3 volunteering days a year which I use with my immediate team. We also have several networking groups who set up volunteering sessions, webinars, and networking. As well as this, I'm involved in several People Forums and Engagement Groups which are great networking opportunities.

Sodexo is a supportive and encouraging workplace, who value apprenticeships and their apprentices. As such a large organisation, there are endless opportunities to grow and develop. No day is the same, there's always lots of projects to get involved in, and everyone is always friendly and happy to help.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sodexo UK?
Make sure you read the job description in full, and outline on your CV and in the job description relevant skills that you can bring. I would suggest reaching out to the hiring manager for a coffee chat before applying, as this gives a greater view of the role (this is what I did).
