Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
A varity of jobs involved in the fabrication of jobs made out of steel, i do lining off, burning, grinding, welding, measuring, fitting and quality checks on a daily basis. Some jobs i do could be completed in a couple of hours or so others can take me a few weeks it completely depends on the job
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I like how every day i could be learning something new or perfecting my skills within my trade. I did alot of research about the trade i wanted to pursure before i joined bae systems and steelworker was the one for me. I like learning new skills and taking flat steel and creating something from it

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Every single skill i have learnt during my apprenticeship is a new skills, this is a complete new career change for me so i have developed, and learnt all new skills involved in the fabrication and steelwork side of my apprenticeship, Grinding, burning and welding are just a few to mention

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is well structured in most areas, such as its laid out exactly what we need to learn and by what time. it keeps it intresting and enjoyable to come to work. the only downside is during the first year there was a lot of complication from college such as lack of tutors or no work to be done.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive alot of support in relation to me learning my trade, from hands on guidance to telling me the best way i can go about tackling a problem or dealing with a task. Also i know there is much more help and support out there if i needed it at some point
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
We have enough time to work on our qualification, we get day release every week to attend college and work toward our level 3. I have not needed much support but i know others that have needed it and it was there for them and they got the help they needed
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I believe that the qualification gives us the knowledge around engineering, it does not directly link into our trade but to have hands on skills learnt from bae skills coaches then the education side from furness college covers both aspects and preapres us for the future. this is helpful for us.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
I do not get involved in any extra curricular activities in work
