Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
carrying out activities that contribute to the operations side of things, ensuring that aircraft from multiple customers remain operational. This is done by me supporting complex issues, or supporting the wider team in a technical sense. I have a day release for uni during the week.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the program, it has challenged me in the right way and given me skills that will help my immensely in my professional career, setting me up to work towards an IEng once I finish the scheme.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned a variety of skills whilst doing my apprenticeship. From confidence building, holding meetings, and conducting daily tasks, to more technical skills like applying knowledge learnt in uni into the workplace. I have developed existing skills build in previous roles such as team working skills, public speaking skills, and general analytical skills to name a few.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It has had its ups and downs, the structure has changed whilst I have been with the company. The university side of things has been unorganised a few times, but seems to be improving.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support, as someone who had medical issues during the apprenticeship, I was supported by my employer.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from tutors they are always available if needed, and supportive.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
As I can from a non-engineering background it has helped me to understand the fundamentals, and shift into an 'engineers' way of thinking which helps me in my working life. No matter the task.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are STEM Ambassador events to support, there are also social gathering organised unofficially by other apprentices. Not much in terms of official events are organised, such as sports teams. There are professional events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is somewhere where you can work and learn, it has been an amazing apprenticeship. It has allowed me to be exposed to the working environment early on in my career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Never be afraid to ask for support or advice, never be afraid to ask questions. There are so many people in the company there to support people in their early career.
