Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
supporting business change and improving processes by understanding business needs and requirements.
I engage with stakeholders from different departments to understand their needs, gather requirements, and ensure alignment with business objectives. I also elicit and document requirements, and create process maps, going from an As-Is to a To-be state among other exciting things.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The business analysis scheme has been one of the most amazing experiences in my professional career. There is a huge support system that has helped me through my journey and I’ve had the opportunity to work on many amazing projects that make a difference to millions of Londoners.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned a lot of amazing skills, both soft and hard skills. We also get a fully funded professional course with BCS Chartered Institute for IT, where we learn about all the tools and techniques that are necessary for the business analyst role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The Business Analysis apprentice scheme at TfL is extremely well structured. We have bi-weekly catchups with our scheme sponsors where we discuss and set achievable targets together, any issues or struggles are also discussed and steps are implanted to help you overcome any challenges.
From the start of the scheme to the end, there is always a clear plan of milestones and other apprenticeship related goals needed to be achieved. We are then well supported through a large network of mentors and other colleagues who help with achieving set objectives.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
In my scheme, I feel extremely well supported. I have a designated apprenticeship manager, a project manager in my current placement, an experienced senior business analyst assigned mentor and an apprentice mentor, who has gone through the same steps I will have to go through. There’s also other colleagues who are more than happy to help and will always reach out to help have a smoother journey settling in as a new apprentice.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training providers were supportive and helped prepare us for exams through various workshops throughout the year.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It has enabled me to familiarise myself with a lot of tools and techniques needed in my day to day role as a business analyst. With a firm grasp of these tools and techniques, I was able to apply them to the various projects I was involved in, describe them in depth in my portfolio and also enabled me to pass professional exams.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are a ton of activities to get involved in at TfL. There’s a men’s and women’s football league, socials organised through the graduates and apprentices committee which offers a variety of activities, and a coffee roulette which is a monthly catchup with 4 members from different levels of the organisation.
