Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a Data Analyst Trainee, you'll be developing your skills in Python, Excel, Tableau, and Tableau Prep while gathering, cleaning, and analyzing data to uncover trends and insights. You'll create visual reports and dashboards to present findings clearly and take part in troubleshooting and problem-solving tasks. You'll also document your processes and receive feedback to improve and refine your technical expertise. Over time, you'll gradually take on more complex projects as you grow in the role.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the different rotations and learning how different parts of the business rely on data to make decisions.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Tableau, Tablueau prep, python and Excell.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The university content doesn't align with what you will do in your placements for the first few years. This part can be a little frustrating. However it is made very clear at the start what you need to attain from your placements to pass the degree.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot through reviews and my line manager and skills coach are always available as a point of contact to help with the anything to with the course, coursework or the placements and what you need out of them.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Apprentices get a lot of support and are provided with sufficient materials as well.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
This is hard to judge at the earlier stages as I don't think the first few years link directly to the specialism yo have picked. The overall content is valuable to have a generic understanding of business structures and the differing role within it.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are a lot of extras you can attend and get involved with. You can be as involved as you want to be in different events if you feel you can manage the degree full time work and some volunteering.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
This is one of the few apprenticeships where you are paid to work while studying part-time, meaning you won’t incur any debt for the degree. The work you do and the placements you take on are all directly relevant, with the potential to join one of these teams once you're fully qualified. Additionally, you are given one paid day a week for university work or lectures, which is a rare opportunity in many industries. This setup is particularly beneficial for mature students, as it removes the need to choose between their current income and further education.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Thoroughly research the role ensure that it is something you are interested in and see if there are any free online courses you can start to get some practice. Not to panic as you get a lot of help and resources along the way once you are in.
