Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My daily role changes every 6 months as we have different placements. At the moment I'm dealing with Project Change, learning why we get these changes, the systems we use to deal with them, and learning from experience. Very computer based but lots of support.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I absolutely love my programme, I've met amazing people, had great opportunities, and have always felt supported along the way. Sometimes working solely from a laptop can become monotonous, however BAE always have training experiences in place to shake things up.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed my collaboration skills having worked in other workplaces before, but have built up skills like courage, as you are given lots of responsibility in this job to manage your workload. I have also improved my interactions with people and helping them improve as people too.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is decently structured, there is a growing number of PM apprentices which makes placement scheduling more difficult, and sometimes mean last minute changes. However the Functional Managers always make sure there is enough work before scheduling your placement.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We receive plenty support from our employer - there are lots of lines of communication to reach out if help is needed both from your placement manager, functional manager, and early careers dept. You are never left in the dark however they do push you out of your comfort zone.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
We receive support from our portfolio manager at college, she is always fast at responding to emails and is clear and concise with the next steps to be taken. We have not started our workshops which will contribute to our exam learning but I imagine this would be similar.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
As I can only speak on the portfolio side of things, I would say it helps me to reflect on the learning and physical work completed, and how this ties into the BAE values and metaskills. It helps me to improve as a worker and plan my future goals.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Shortly after I started, all 180 first year apprentices went on a trip to Outward Bound which was a brilliant opportunity to find yourself within the company. I have attended many VIP visits, getting the opportunity to meet inspirational people. Internal training within the company means you can network too.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
This company is miles ahead of any other company I've worked from. From employee benefits to networking opportunities to in-depth training, BAE stand out as one of the best employers when compared with my experiences and also friends and family. They also offer a competitive salary for apprentices.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
To try your best during the initial screening process, have your technical experiences ready to use as examples. During the on-site interview, be confident and again make sure you relate your technical answers back to the values of BAE systems and project management (if relevant to your apprenticeship).
