Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
As a systems engineer I look at designing systems or parts of systems and working on how the smaller sub systems integrate together on the platform as a whole
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy being able to work on new and current/relevant projects and being made to feel like I have an impact

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt new technical presentation skills and have become very competent at Microsoft Excel. I have also gained skills in investigation, self management and communication.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The programme is well structured from a workplace perspective however the college side and how I record my work as evidence towards my degree is quite confusing and isn't always clear to me what I need to do and when. There was also a big confusion as to where I would be for my first year, in college full time or in work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive lots of support from my manager for completing my day to day tasks at work and recieve some support from my development lead, helping me with my evidence recording.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I receive some support from my college teachers but it feels hard to reach them sometimes. My assessor for the NVQ work I am doing alongside my degree is not very helpful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I do not feel that there is a lot of crossover between my college degree and the work I do day-to-day, however I feel both help me develop in different but relevant ways
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are plenty of social activities organised at my workplace that help me get to know my colleagues better.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The office atmosphere is great and the people I work with are really friendly and helpful, I feel like I am valued and that I am given work and responsibilities that fulfil me and make my time feel worthwhile.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Do your research into the company and what they work on if you want to impress in the interviews. Also be eager to learn and interact with people in the office, they like and value apprentices who are willing to learn and show a genuine interest in the work that they do.
