Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work within the Finance team within the Pension Fund. My day-to-day role consists of allocating payments received, raising of purchase orders and conducting the invoicing process. It also involves reconciliations of contributions received.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my Level 3 programme so far. I also completed a Level 2 programme which gave me a brilliant start into my role, providing me with knowledge to feel more confident in my job.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt/developed many skills, such as communication, increased confidence within a workplace, working within a wider team. Also, I have learnt many financial skills through my apprenticeship but also my colleagues who are all very accommodating for my questions.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The organisation of my programme is faultless so far. Everything I need is provided for me without needing to ask. I have regular catch-ups with my training provider to keep track. I also know exactly what will be happening next, in terms of classes or exams for example.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive as much support as I would ever need. No request is too much, and it's always met with passion as our Apprenticeship Coordinator is fully committed to providing the best scenario for apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I'm very well supported by the training provider (PEAK Accountancy Training). Any questions I may have after class are always answered in full detail and the tutors are always on hand to assist wherever needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It definitely helps me perform better in my role, as the content we are learning can be applied to my day to day job. It gives me more confidence to be able to speak to my colleagues in a much more professional manner.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are plenty on initiatives to get involved in. Whether this be a monthly football match in our department, or a Council-wide steps walking competition. There is a big push on wellbeing and extra curricular activities certainly do provide this.

I believe it is a great place to work, I feel secure in my role, I feel that my colleagues are professional and want to provide a high standard not just to our community but also uphold a high standard for themselves. There is a striving to always do more.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cheshire West and Chester Council?
I would advise applying for something you have a genuine passion and interest for, as this will make the learning process even easier. I also believe that communicating in an application process of your intentions of furthering your career within the Council is important, too.
