Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Logging onto computer checking emails... do any admin/computer jobs before going on the ship and carrying out any jobs I need to do. Setting to work equipment and then fixing it if faulty.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

My programme is great but right now its a bit slow. I haven't had the chance to properly do my job but this is out of my control...

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Increased my communication skills, better at using tools, gained electrical knowledge, how to navigate ship properly, how to follow all the relevant processes, how to create documentation for jobs and how to get it properly authorised.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Not very organised due to the departments first time having apprentices plus other circumstances outside their control.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The engineers are always wanting to help me whenever possible and we had a great early careers department.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

City Of Glasgow College is set up and ran very poorly, we have a few great lecturers most of them mean well but we waste so much time and that is time that could have been spent in the yard actually learning. The course isn't tailored to us either.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Why?
They are a huge company and is full of very experienced engineers and operatives that you can learn from... its a great base for a career, lots of interesting work and its all for a good cause to protect our country.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Make sure to ask questions and always try to make an effort, ensure to socialise and try get on with your colleagues. Don't hesitate to ask ever.
