Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a Software Engineering Degree Apprentice, I work across different teams in BAE Systems on 6 month placements. This is a great chance to get a varied overview of the business and helps me connect and collaborate with different colleagues.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy learning and developing myself and feel really supported by both BAE and my college.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've gained an excellent grasp of basic software engineering skills throughout my time at BAE. I learn a lot from my experienced colleagues when I'm on site and have found the university part of the apprenticeship to be really informative so far.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well structured but did change to a new format for my year, which means that some issues like module content and organisation are still being worked out.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive all the support I need from my employer and always feel like I can ask for help if needed. As an apprentice, the role is tailored to my experience and development opportunities are frequently available.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
My tutors have been good so far and always seem on hand to answer questions and provide guidance. Some modules have been a bit confusing but I think this will change next year because feedback is always listened to and actioned.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I'm still on the first year of my qualification but do feel that I learn more about Software Engineering while I'm on site at my company. The college/university content can seem quite basic but should still help me to build a solid foundation.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I am a member of an early careers network and frequently take part in social activities with my fellow apprentices. Everyone is really friendly and welcoming at my company so it's easy to meet new people and make new friends.
