Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Adhering to health and safety, wearing the correct PPE. Working through various practice tasks and then completing phase tests to check out competency. Learning additional maths in college and pattern development and CAD.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Some of the work is very repetitive especially how much grinding that has to be done. However, this builds good skills and makes me competent. I enjoy the end results and it makes me happy when i have produce a nice piece of work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Yes, I have learned how to use auto desk software to create CAD Drawings. How to mark out accurately and how to check for accuracy. How to use oxyacetylene burners to cut through steel. How to use grinders effectively to produce work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The program especially when based on site with our employer is very well structured. You start of with practising marking out and go on to bigger and more complex tasks as you progress. When you come to do your tests you have learned how to do each element so its a breeze to get done.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We are offered help and can for help whenever this is needed. We can ask for visual demonstrations and verbal instructions when needed. We are always encouraged to do better and we always get the support that is required.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The training provider failed to have a tutor in place for 12 weeks, This has put me behind with my work and has added extra stress.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
We have learned business skills in communicating via the workplace and basic training with basic hand tools, grinders and Mig-welding machines and also health and safety and risk assessments before transferring to the workplace. This has enabled me to perform better by sending better written emails, being safe and also being able to complete risk assessments. However some components dont really relate to what i do as job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, soapbox challenge.
