Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As an Audit Senior, I plan and carry out audit testing for private business clients. My role involves communicating audit findings to clients, reviewing junior work, completing audit files for manager and partner reviews and clearing subsequent review points. I also prepare and review sets of financial statements for clients.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy working for Cooper Parry and I cannot imagine finishing off my apprenticeship with any other company. Their focus on supporting people and encouraging personal and professional development creates an environment where staff are always striving for success.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

My project management skills are continually improving as I am confidently leading audit teams and managing jobs efficiently to meet deadlines. My employer has provided many internal training courses aimed at developing technical knowledge areas that are applicable to my role as well as enrolling me in sessions that are going to assist me with my next promotion.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My experience with First Intuition has been fantastic! My tuition dates are always planned and communicated well in advance which has made it easy to fit them in around my work priorities. Cooper Parry have also been great at communicating with First Intuition and have ensured I am getting the support I need for my studies and the experiences in my day to day role to help me progress.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer provides regular internal training sessions on technical areas that are focused for my role. My line manager always schedules bi-weekly catch ups in my calendar to check on my workload and my well-being. During study and exam periods, I am given the time I need to be well prepared.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The tutors are very observant and always spot when I am struggling to grasp a concept. They care about my well-being around exam periods and always extend offers for additional support.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The modules that make up my qualification have lined up well with my development at work as I have had more exposure to advanced concepts and technical issues as my work responsibilities have grown throughout my training contract. However there are some aspects of my qualification that I do not get much exposure to in my day to day work as an Audit Senior.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Cooper Parry are always organising different social events! There are team lunches, after work group activities, Christmas and summer parties, sports teams and even planned volunteering days. Team members also tend to organise outings for birthdays and to celebrate exam passes!
