Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Currently i'm working on the Secondary Shield Design for the new class of submarine, this involves modelling the layout of the Submarine, incorporating all radioactive sources and running calculations to determine doses and dose rates for the crew.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The overall programme is good, i just think the way it is delivered is poor, the scheme could easily be shortened to 4 years instead of the full 5. And the academic side is poorly delivered with inproper trainied tutors.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
I have definitely learnt new skills in terms of technical knowledge but there is definitely more ways this should be done and the frequency of it.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme structure is accommodating, having Uni on Monday is a great start to the week then the following 4 days in the workplace. We have 3 years of rotating placements which is great as we experience all nuclear aspects of the business
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
Support form the Employer can vary, in terms of issue sorting its good but can take excessive amounts of time due to layers to jump through.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
We have one full day a week at Uni, where we progress our degree through accredited modules, apart from this we have no interaction with them. Assignment feedback is very poor, sometimes not receiving any and communication from them is just as bad.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I feel that my qualification does enable me to perform better in my role but its definitely more suited for civil than defence nuclear.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Extra curricular activities are very well organised often done by apprentices or teams in the business, these can range from events, nights out or get togethers and is always done excellent.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The experiences you can get involved in ins only done here in the UK and no other employer can do what we do. The diverse range of VIPs you get to visit is great too.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Understand that this is more of an office job than you would think, so come with that mindset and hand held tool working is not done very often, if at all.
