Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
When I'm on placement, contributing to the project I'm on. I do actual meaningful work, performing bug fixes, implementing new code features, writing and executing tests.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I get really good experiences doing meaningful work. Tasks I have completed have been included and added into releases and products. Also learn a lot of new things which helps me when making decisions on the route I want to take in the future

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Learnt a lot of just general software based skills - how to write better code, write good tests, properly test code. Also working in a real time means I've picked up how to better communicate, and work in an agile way

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Work can be varied due to working on a live product so can be different week to week, which gives first hand experience on work out of the program
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
All members of the teams I've been on are willing to help and support, they also accept that there is a bit of a learning curve so won't initially be keeping up with other engineers from the start. Always someone I can go to if i have an issue
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
University can be a bit of a pain being online and self taught means there can be slower communication. some lecturers are better than others and understand really well our situation so make good adjustments, others aren't as good and it can be a pain to deal with at times
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
There can be a lot of content for me that is duplicated to work I have done on project, programming module mainly, but to others in my cohort its new content so would say its very reflective
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Depending on teams there can be social events which are enjoyable to attend, as a group of apprentices we try and arrange some bits here and there

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Get to be involved in doing actual work that contributes to a product/project. People at the job are very helpful and supporting with all areas of the scheme
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
asking questions is the typical one but extremely relevant. A lot of the people are ex-apprentices so know what your going through so want to help and support. Also more than willing to give you help and guidance when you need it
