Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work within the Electrical design team using different software such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, RasterCAD and more to create and design 3D models of parts and assemblies and then using the same software to generate the associated technical drawings and circuit diagrams to be approved for the customer.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Overall, I have had a positive experience within my programme, learning many new skills and working well within my team. The people around me have been crucial to the enjoyment of my programme and overall has provided a good learning experience.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many new skills within my role as a design apprentice, I have learned how to use 3D modelling software, create 2D technical drawings and circuit diagrams, technical language, communicate with engineers as well as picking up presentation and other social skills associated within my role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Overall, there is a well structed programme within Cavendish, allowing for Apprentices and Graduates to rotate through the business areas on placements. These can vary between 3, 6 & 12 month periods, depending on what placement is being attended at the time. This provides great insight into the different working areas.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
So far, whenever I have experienced a problem, my line manager has been a great supportive figure, doing his best to resolve that issue as soon as possible. If the issue is not tied to something that my line manager can assist with, the early careers team is greatly helpful.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My experience whilst attending Loughborough college has been near on perfect, there have been a few issues that have raised over the years but they have been extremely efficient in resolving these issues. Overall, I have had a good experience with the training provider and I am achieving the results that I want.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
There are many crossovers between the modules that I am completing within college, linking to the work that I do. For example, Electrical principles has helped me to better understand the workings of different components and how their positions and arrangements affect the function of a circuit. Such as resistors in series and in parallel.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are many STEM events that the early careers cohort are tasked with attending, this helps the company to branch out and spread awareness of the Nuclear sector as well as engineering. There are also special events that we get a chance to be picked to attend which give a great networking opportunity.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Cavendish Nuclear to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have actually referred one of my best friends to this company and they are now working in the same team as me. This company is a great place for an apprentice to pick up new skills and gain qualifications that will allow them to further their career in the future.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cavendish Nuclear?
The biggest thing that I would suggest is to make strong relationships with the people around you, it is always helpful to know what everyone does and who they are. This can always be helpful if you experience an issue as you are likely to know someone who can assist you.
