Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I help aid the engineers with different aspects of electrical design work. Each day there is something different to do, whether that is working on different drawings on some CAD software or editing and updating spreadsheets and documents. Sometimes there are different team meetings which I attend and contribute to.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme, each day there is always something new and exciting to be getting on with. My team members have all been very kind and welcoming on the different projects that I have been part of. I feel as though I can get support from different people as and when I need it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
During my time at Cavendish I have learnt lots of different new skills. I have learnt how to use different computer aided design software (CAD) such as AutoCAD and Revit. I have also learnt many softer skills, such as best communication and team work practices. My overall use of IT systems has also improved on programs such as Microsoft Excel and Outlook.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is structured very well, with a clear end point assessment goal and what you have to do to achieve that is explained very clearly by both the workplace and the training provider. Any changes to how the programme is structured are communicated clearly to us and meetings are put into the calendar to explain any new changes and processes to us.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer, as there is an Early Careers team that are dedicated to on boarding new early careers members and helping them whilst they are completing their apprenticeship/graduate programme. They are always open and honest with us and will hold briefings to keep us informed of changes within the company and the sector, and they are happy to make time for us should we need any extra support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
My training provider is good, I find the modules very interesting and most of the time the workload is manageable. I receive a lot of support from my training provider mentor who supports me with working towards my end point assessment. Some of the lecturers at my further education college are always happy to help me and will post good quality learning resources on our shared learning platform.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I believe that the qualification I am going to get once completing my apprenticeship will be very fitting to help me in my role. The things I learn during my off the job college I can often implement during work. I feel as though once I have completed my course I will feel more confident in my role and I will be able to confidently perform very well in the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there are often professional networking events to get involved in at my company. There are also different sports, environmental and volunteering events to get involved in, especially in the summer time. My company also requires a minimum number of hours completing STEM events each academic year for early careers members. These can be fun and engaging.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Cavendish Nuclear to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I am really enjoying my apprenticeship so far and I have found it to be a much better alternative pathway of education rather than university. The company is very understanding and flexible with working from home days and the need to take time off. I feel as though my career is shaping really well with Cavendish Nuclear and I will be able to achieve all my long term career goals thanks to the support given by the company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cavendish Nuclear?
Make sure to have a clear and concise CV ready for when you apply, and it can also be good to write a cover letter explaining why you are a good fit for the role they are advertising. Do interview preparation by having a look at some of the most commonly asked interview questions and have some answers prepared. If you are asked to do a presentation, make sure to do some throughout research on your topic and speak confidently and clearly when presenting.
