Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I have college one day per week followed by 4 days on site carrying out practical work in line with the placement I am in.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy seeing a variety of different areas on site at BAE Systems. The placement rotations really help me see what the day to day jobs are within the roles here and I can choose which one I prefer in the 3rd year.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed many skills from fault finding to carrying out different test procedures. Additionally, I have learnt how to 3D model and 3D print too. My communication skills have developed throughout my time here at BAE Systems.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I believe the programme is well organised and structured. The placement rotations ensure I am not stuck in a certain area for too long, allowing me to make different experiences and learn a variety of skills. Also, The plan is shared with us apprentices, allowing me to know which department I will be joining next.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from BAE Systems. They have helped me develop new skills and identify which skills I have applied and when whilst carrying out reports. Additionally, they provide a variety of different avenues to seek support with external factors in my life, like mental health and financial support, if necessary.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

IPS provides sufficient support in getting me the qualifications in line with my role.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I believe what I have learnt has put me in a good position and helps me perform better in my role here. Previously I had knowledge on electrical components but the training provider (IPS) has allowed me to get more hands on with my knowledge. I had learnt how to solder to a high standard, after never soldering before, which was built upon here at BAE and now I am IPC certified.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I am apart of the charity committee, which allowed me to project manage an event which had raised a lot of money for the specified charity. This allowed me to gain more experience in project management and talk to more people around site.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be yourself. BAE Systems can provide a lot of support to their employees, but they also ensure people can fit into different teams and work hard. By being yourself, the employers can get a better understanding of who you are and guide you into a job role which best suits you.
