Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Creating and revising engineering drawings, making schematics and PCB layouts, doing manufacture and assembly of development units. Working towards criteria for NVQ and BTEC qualifications.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I enjoy my work that I am given, it can be very stressful at times with lots of clashing work build ups from NVQ, College, Placements and general apprenticeship work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Learnt how to make, revise and format engineering drawings, as well as learning how to use schematic and PCB layout CAD software.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
The programme is well structured in the first year, however, it seems to be unstructured and unorganised in the second year with a lot of decisions being last minute and stuff that should be sorted out by admin is generally left up to the apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
There is a decent amount of support, and they are easy to contact in case anymore is required.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Very good support from the training provider, all of the tutors are willing to answer any questions outside the specified lesson time and explain things further if you did not get it during the lesson. They also provide good feedback when doing assignments.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Lots of information and practical skills taught through the qualification are useful for anyone going into the engineering business, a lot of the industry knowledge gained is helpful in the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are plenty of activities to do, as well as lots of webex talks and employee resource groups in order to better understanding and meet other people with similar interests, such as the warhammer club.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
You get good qualifications out of the apprenticeship while getting to work in one of the leading companies in the aerospace industry.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
It is easy to slip up and fall behind with work in the apprenticeship which can mean that you won't enjoy it. Staying on top of what you are given and learning to manage workloads and prioritise certain things is key.
