Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Throughout the apprenticeship, we rotate between 5/6 month long placements in different areas of the business, all within the aerospace engineering sector. We attend university lectures one day per week, as well as working towards a diploma. Work varies from placement to placement, however all are used to gain a strong understanding of many aspects of the business.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my job, especially the fact that we rotate around a range of departments in our placements, which allow you to learn a much wider range of skills, as well as meeting lots of new people in each area.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt an array of new skills in my time here so far. These are not only professional skills but also personal skills. Gaining exposure to a business provides you with a great opportunity to learn from senior engineers, as well as being able to network with these people and grow in confidence.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme operates smoothly, with a well structured placement plan and lots of staff to take care of any early careers concerns that we may have. Additionally, the programme can easily be adapted to suit the needs of specific apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Support is always there when needed, there are teams of people dedicated to making sure apprentices have the support they may need, which can be easily accessed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
When working towards our qualifications, any support we may require can easily be accessed. This applies to both the degree (with support from Blackpool & The Fylde College) and the diploma (with support from BAE Systems staff). This can be anything from a quick message, to arranging a 1-2-1 session with the provider.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I believe the knowledge gained through our qualifications enable us to have a deeper understanding of aircraft and aerospace engineering as whole, which goes much deeper than that of just a placement on its own. We are able to take this knowledge and use it to aid in our day to day job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are a range of extra curricular activities provided by the company, both on site and off site. These can be easily accessed by anyone in the company and provide great benefit to those that attend.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I believe BAE Systems is an amazing company to work for, with a great amount of support for any challenges you may face, as well as providing excellent company benefits. The company also provides you with the right amount of time to focus on studying towards your qualifications, ensuring work does not hinder your progress.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
My biggest tip is to be yourself, and not be afraid of judgement, as that does not happen in this company. Apart from that, I'd say to put lots of effort into your initial application to help increase your chances of getting an interview, and progressing further.
