Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Digital Technology Solutions cyber apprentice. Involves working on projects with your line manager that are related to your role, along with attending university lectures online weekly and in person every quarter
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I think the balance between work and university is pretty well-balanced, and do enjoy the opportunities that this company provides such as the work related trips you get to go on, the different site visits, the placement opportunities... Overall the program has been quite enjoyable

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
With regards to university, the first year of content is no different from A-level computer science content, so have not really learnt too much with regards to university, although this is similar with many universities. The company provide lots of resources to help develop any skills you require, mostly through online courses

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The university content is well organised and structured well, although sometimes some of the work placements can feel quite unstructured, and involve lots of waiting around for tasks - you have to fill your time with lots of extra curricular activities such as online courses
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Lots of support is provided throughout the scheme: you have an apprentice manager to help with overall queries/ general support, a skills coach to also provide any assistance required and help with any concerns you have, along with a university coach to manage concerns related to university
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Line managers are often open to discussion about how they can provide work/ tasks that will allow you to meet the required KSB's (a list of Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours from which we have to provide evidence of completion within the workplace). Everything is explained well, and lots of support is provided
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The work opportunities within the workplace allow you to understand how theoretical concepts are applied in real life scenarios: this is very useful as it allows you to get practical experience + provides you with an insight into the processes from which companies take to tackle different problems
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are many extra-curricular activities to get involved with: if you find an event from which you believe will be beneficial to attend, the company is often very supportive in providing assistance/ approving the process - often you can even get travel and hotels paid for if the event is more than one day

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The combination of both attending university paired with the opportunities to get practical experience with the work/ opportunities BAE provide will put you ahead of competition - the salary is also an obvious bonus
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Ensure you are passionate about what you apply for, as at times there will be some slow periods in terms of work being provided, so will require you to take things into your own hands, although there are generally lots of opportunities to capitalise on
