Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work in Product Safety at an aircraft platform level. I work on safety processes for system teams to follow and conduct safety analysis. I have the opportunity to speak with and learn from experienced safety engineers on the programme in and out of my team. I am responsible for running safety committee meetings for the programme I work on which cannot be discussed for security reasons.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my work. I get compensated very fairly for my time, I have a team that I enjoy learning from and working with, I enjoy my work at University on Wednesday and all of the lecturers are very nice. Overall, I am having a very enjoyable experience on the apprenticeship.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned different software that I need to do my role. I have had training on how to do the safety work I need to do, but I would like to get more training to further improve my competency and understanding.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Structured very well. training from sep 21 to jun 22 then 6x 5 month placements in different areas of the business. Currently on a final 2 year placement in the area of my choice which will see my until the end of the 5 year apprenticeship and is theoretically my exit role into the business at the end of my time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have received all of the support that I could ask for. I have got pastoral support from early careers when I needed it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Got good support from my skills coach when I was working on my Level 2 and Level 4 qualifications. The lecturers at university give us good support when working towards my FdEng Aerospace and BEng Hons Aerospace.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think that the Level 4 qualification is closely linked to the actual work I do, whereas there is less practical application of the work I do at University. Some units are more handy than others but some are quite theoretical or based on areas that I haven't worked in.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are some I believe, but I am not involved in any.
Recommendations & Advice
Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Pay fairly, good range of placements and potential exit roles. Nice work environment depending on the team you work for. Good benefits to the job that even first year apprentices can access. University is one day per week, September through to May.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Try and research the different qualifications that you will receive as part of the apprenticeship as they are interested in that when interviewing you.
