Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

On my current placement, I am fitting pipes onto parts of the submarine unit that my team work on and using my fabrication skills to help make sure all pipes fit into place perfectly.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I very much enjoy my programme since being moved into the actual business. My first year of my apprenticeship I struggled a lot but now i feel very confident and happy.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

All the skills i have now i have learnt within my apprenticeship as i started with no experience. I know now how to use power and hand tools, a better understanding of maths and measuring and much more.

I think the programme is well structured, slight lack of organisation within it but can be easily fixed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support within my job and i’m very grateful for it.

Lots of support given.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It helps understand why we need to follow certain safe protocols and procedures and helps to communicate why we do things the way we do.

Great place to work and gain skills for life. Lots of brilliant people to work with and learn from.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be open to doing things you’ve never done before/ don’t like doing that much. I think going in with an open mind to new experiences is so important and for meeting new people.
