Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role involves operating robots that paint the cars, which includes checking the model code and paint code before sending a car forwards into a spray booth, and spraying over rub-throughs in the paint before the robots spray.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme as I learn new things about the robots every day at work and I have had the opportunity to learn a lot about the car manufacturing industry, which I have always been passionate about.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt how to use a paint gun to spray an area of a car and I have built upon my knowledge of programming, which I was slightly familiar with from GCSE Computer Science.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I am currently on a rotational placement programme which has been structured well as my three placements are all in my home department of T-35 and are helping me to become more familiar with important paint shop processes. However, my Chichester College programme (Lean Manufacturing) does not link well enough to my job area and I struggle to see how the two relate, especially when we complete metalwork, as this is something that is not completed in the paint shop.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
We are encouraged to talk to [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], our Apprentice Advisor, if we ever need help with a query, but sometimes it is unclear who we should report to, as we see the Process Supporters, Process Leaders and General Managers in our individual work areas a lot more than [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions].
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
[This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], one of my tutors at Chichester College, always emphasises the importance of contacting him if we need help and support, and he assists a lot with work we complete when we are stuck, but it can sometimes be difficult to get help when completing metalwork as our tutor has a lot of students to help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I sometimes struggle to see the relationship between my job role as a robot operator and completing metalwork at college, so this aspect of college does not affect my performance in my job role, but the health and safety aspect of [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] units links to my work area and helps me to perform processes safely at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There is an apprentice/intern football match every Monday at Chichester College, which I have enjoyed joining in with, but it can be difficult to get involved with organised activities with apprentices and colleagues I am not familiar with.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Rolls-Royce's apprentice programme allows young people to learn new skills and meet new people with similar interests. There is a lot of room for progression in and after an apprenticeship with the company and all employees are welcoming and friendly to new people.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
Ask a lot about your job role during your interview to check that it is right for you as I applied for a Lean Manufacturing and Engineering apprenticeship and only found out that I was to be a Robot Operator in the paint shop at my interview. It is important to show willingness to innovate processes and demonstrate how you would want to achieve goals in the business.
